The World Stomatological Organization (WSO) is pleased to report the successful completion of the WSO Wesak Day Free Public Dental Screening Programme, held in conjunction with the Wesak Day celebrations at Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple, Malaysia.

Over the course of the programme, hundreds of members of the public benefited from free oral health screening, oral health education, professional consultations, preventive healthcare advice, and referrals where necessary. The programme brought together dental professionals, specialists, academics, university students, healthcare personnel, and volunteers who shared a common commitment to serving the community

The initiative aimed to promote oral health awareness, encourage the early detection of oral diseases, and reinforce the message that oral health is an integral component of Total Healthcare. The enthusiastic public response reflected an increasing awareness of the important relationship between oral health and overall well-being.

Her inspiring teachings and message of kindness, discipline, and ethical living left a lasting impact on all participants.

Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA)

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) for its support and collaboration in making this programme possible. We look forward to strengthening future collaborations with AFSM, universities, healthcare institutions, and community organizations both locally and internationally in serving society through education, compassion, volunteerism, and healthcare outreach.

Celebrating Volunteerism and Community Service

The success of this programme would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of the many volunteer dentists, specialists, academics, university staff, students, nurses, support personnel, and community volunteers who generously contributed their time, expertise, and energy.

Over the course of the Wesak celebrations, hundreds of members of the public received free dental screenings, oral health consultations, preventive advice, and health education. Many participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to receive professional oral healthcare guidance in a welcoming and community-oriented environment.

The dedication of all volunteers reflected the true spirit of Wesak— compassion, generosity, selfless service, and care for humanity. Their collective efforts helped bring oral healthcare closer to the community and demonstrated the profound impact that volunteerism can have on improving lives.

Advancing Oral Health as Part of Total Healthcare

One of the key messages reinforced throughout the programme was that oral health should not be viewed in isolation but rather as an integral component of overall health and well-being.

The collaboration between Fo Guang Shan, BLIA, AFSM, universities, professional organizations, healthcare professionals, and community volunteers demonstrated the power of interdisciplinary and cross-sector partnerships in promoting public health.

By bringing together religious organizations, educational institutions, professional associations, and healthcare providers, the programme successfully highlighted the importance of integrating Dentistry into Total Healthcare, benefiting both individuals and society as a whole.

Looking Forward

The success of the WSO Wesak Day Free Public Dental Screening Programme has laid a strong foundation for future collaborations and community outreach initiatives.

WSO looks forward to continuing its partnerships with Fo Guang Shan, BLIA, Academy for Silent Mentor (AFSM), SEGi University, MAHSA University, the Malaysian Dental Association, and other local and international institutions in advancing oral health promotion, healthcare education, volunteerism, and humanitarian service.

Together, we can continue to build healthier communities while fostering understanding, compassion, and harmony among people of all backgrounds.

Conclusion

The WSO Wesak Day Free Public Dental Screening Programme was more than a healthcare outreach activity. It was a celebration of compassion, education, service, volunteerism, inter-racial harmony, and inter-religious understanding.

It demonstrated how people from different professions, institutions, cultures, and faiths can unite under a common purpose—to serve humanity and improve lives.

The World Stomatological Organization extends its deepest gratitude to all partners, volunteers, healthcare professionals, academics, students, organizers, and members of the public who contributed to making this programme a remarkable success.
